Summer Season News 2012

Summer is here and Xmas is less than a week away. The Compass Charters crew is ready to help you again this season to enjoy that floating holiday in the beautiful Marlborough Sounds. We have added a few new boats to the Compass fleet and all the usual favorites have had their annual maintenance and are ready to go.

Bookings are up from the last few seasons so the secret of our playground here has gotten out! We have a fleet now of 23 vessels meaning a large choice available for everyone's needs out on the water. We look forward to you NZ/Aus regulars returning to the area and many old and new international crews from Europe, USA, South America, Africa and Asia enjoying the paradise we have here in the Sounds.

"Long Charter discount" special is running during this season - up to 20% off for the 2011/2012 season! Our Winter "Long Charters" discounts we ran last season were very popular as they rewarded longer charters with a big discount - so we are going to run it again this winter. As with any holiday, it takes more than a day or two to unwind and begin to truly relax and enjoy the beauty of the Sounds as is there is always somewhere new to explore or a favourite old haunt to tuck in to. This offer runs out on the 1st of March. So book for a 2011/2012 season holiday by then and receive this great discount.

"Return Clients discount". Compass Charters has always offered a 10% "Return Clients Discount" if you return and charter within a calendar year from your last charter with us - this wont change! But - this coming season we are going to reward clients who have been with us before at ANY TIME (in the last 20 years) with a 5% discount on any charter. This means if your last charter with us was 16 years ago you will still get 5% off as a minimum. Return clients discounts cannot be used in conjunction with long charter discounts. Proof of past charters with us is required.

"2012 Easter Weekend discount". Compass Charters is offering a 20% discount for charters booked for Easter (3 day minimum).

What's been happening

The popularity of the runabouts surpassed all expectations with all 4 fully booked through the peak period with an average 7 day charter— it certainly pays to book in advance if you are planning toward 2012. The tow toys have provided hours of entertainment and the odd kayak mishap has also provided much entertainment. We now have three single seat kayaks available (and they do not come with trainer wheels!)

Boat & Bach prize!!!!!!!!!!!

We are running a prize draw this season for a weekend Boat & Bach holiday as part of our 20th anniversary celebrations. If you book and charter with us this season you automatically go into the draw for this great prize. The boat is "Orion" - a McLay 650 hard top with a 175HP. The bach sleeps 6 and has all the usual Kiwi comforts. The lucky client will be drawn on the 1st of May 2012 and has one year to use the holiday.

Blue Cod is back on the menu!

The closure of the blue cod fishery was lifted on April 1, 2011 and ends on the 31st of August. New regulations are onboard all vessels and include a 2 cod/person/day and both a minimum (30cm) and maximum size (35cm). The new 2011/2012 season will run from 20 December 2011 to 31 August 2012. Also the scallop season closes on the 15th of Feb and will re-open on July 15. From all the feedback the scallop dredges have provided an easy feed to all who exerted the effort'

A New runabout in the fleet

We have a new (Literally) runabout in the fleet. A 2011 Fi-Glass Cavalier called "Slingshot II". She is 5.4 meters long with a Mercury 115HP 4 stroke outboard, skipole, colour chart plotter,fishfinder, bimni etc... A delight to drive with comfort for all when cruising the Sounds here.

We have a new Haines Hunter SS700 in the fleet. Powered with a 225 Yamaha 4 stroke it can get you out to your favourite spot in no time. She is 7.2 meters long with a 260HP inboard mercruiser. Top condition with comfort for all when cruising the Sounds here. Surveyed for 7.

The combination of great looks, comfort, handling and room to spare make it easier to enjoy the rewards of being out on the water with family and friends. We have a team of dedicated Skippers who love taking crew out for a special day. "Overture" is perfect for a day of space and comfort on the water. Overture can accommodate groups up to 10 people for fishing and 16 people for scenic trips. Very stable with this 45ft power catamaran out there in the water.

Scallop & Blue Cod Season

Scallops start again on the 15th of July.

The scallops last season were FAT and in top condition. We have scallop dredges for hire and from all the feedback last season, they provided an easy feed to all who made the effort.

Don't forget that Blue Cod is back on the menu for the first time in 3 years! Charter one of our runabouts or if you want a boys trip out the E.J is the vessel for you. Many of our return 'blokes trips' base their annual holiday around a long weekend on EJ at this time of year. EJ really comes into her own for these groups as she has a massive stern deck, plenty of space in the lazarette for dive and fishing gear, a diesel heater and can accommodate up to 9...
