We wish to reassure you that all of our operations here are up and running.
It certainly was a good shake and I'm sure you will all be aware from the news coverage that there will be disruptions to the road and rail link through Kaikoura for some time. The NZ Transport Agency have cleared the well-established "Inland road" via Lewis Pass (SH65) and Murchison (SH6) as the alternate route. This has ensured supplies north and south will not be disrupted.
If you are driving north from Christchurch follow the "Inland road" (SH65) and I would suggest you allow a little extra time on the standard AA drive times as there may be speed restrictions due to the large volume of traffic but it is a really lovely drive, through lush productive farm land and native bush. Check the NZTA link below for any updates.
Interislander and Bluebridge have worked hard over the last week to reinstate their services and Bluebridge is now fully operational. Interislander are mostly back on schedule but there are changes to some sailings so do reconfirm your sailing time with them and just let us know if your booking changes at all.
If you have not booked your flight yet you may like to consider the option of flying "Soundsair". They are a smaller commuter airline that will fly direct from Christchurch or Wellington in to Koromiko (Picton) or Blenheim airport and they have a shuttle that will drop you direct to our office in the marina. Book your shuttle when you book your ticket.
If flying Air NZ you should fly in to Blenheim airport and I would recommend booking a shuttle to Picton. (a taxi will be more expensive, and there is no bus service from the airport) See shuttle numbers below.

Train - Kiwirail has announced the cancellation of the Coastal Pacific service for the remainder of the season due to the significant damage to the Main North rail line between Christchurch and Picton. If you were booked on the train please let us know your alternate arrival info as soon as you can.
Picton is well serviced however some products may take longer to arrive as the freight volumes increase for the peak period. Picton has a large Fresh Choice supermarket with a good range of meat, fresh fruit and vege and local wine. You may like to consider pre-ordering your groceries if you have specific requirements or to save time on arrival in Picton. Let us know at least a week in advance so the supermarket has time to adjust their order. Please email us to request a provisions list pdf if this is of interest to you.
Our base is in the Waikawa Marina less than 10 minutes' drive from Picton. There are no shops for provisions at the marina.
We wish to reassure you that while we cannot predict natural disasters such as this we do have a plan in place for this. The sea is a great insulator and the earthquake would not have been felt very strongly at all. The cautionary tsunami warning issued was broadcast by Maritime Radio as soon as it was issued and it is our policy to contact all vessels ourselves, either by VHF or by cell phone.
Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions and if you will have a contact NZ phone number when you arrive here please let us know.
